Our Story
Akka (a-k'a) means older sister in Tamil, my native Indian language. My Akkas and I were raised in a large family where food and tradition went hand-in-hand. My mother used to always prepare her famous chicken curry sauce before annual pilgrimages to our ancestral church. The secret recipe was passed down from her grandmother, so naturally, my mother taught my Akkas how to prepare healthy yet delicious pre-packaged foods for the sacred tradition.
When my Akka visited from India, she picked Meyer lemons straight from our backyard to make a traditional South Indian relish. The authentic flavor gained instant popularity amongst our friends, even my daughter’s friends who’ve never tried Indian food before loved it! Wanting to share our culture and traditions, we began participating in local food festivals and debuting in farmers’ markets and specialty stores. The condiment drew fans from all over, so by popular demand, we began adding chutneys, simmer sauces, and marinades.

That’s why all Akka’s products are handmade from scratch, combining traditional Indian cooking with modern culinary science to make fresh food with authentic flavors. Made with lots of love, the freshest produce, and quality spices, we would never dream of adding preservatives or other artificial additives to our food.
